Xiaoyun Sean Liao is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 9 years of experience in data structures and algorithms, database and data mining, C++ and Python. Currently, he is working with Facebook as a Software Engineer in Video Algorithms and Encoding Systems. His responsibilities include improving video experience by enabling better codecs and algorithms for video compression, and developing reliable encoding and delivery systems to scale videos across various products. Prior to Facebook, Xiaoyun worked with CGG Services (U.S.) Inc. as a Software Engineer in Data Infrastructure and Data Mining. Here, he developed efficient data infrastructure APIs to manage petabyte-size imaging data by implementing libraries in C++. He also established scalable data mining systems to improve system resources scheduling in Python, R, and Cassandra. Xiaoyun's expertise also includes String Algorithms and Sequence Analysis. He worked as a Keck Fellow with Baylor College of Medicine, where he developed dynamic algorithms to analyze the similarity of billions of characters in sequence data. Xiaoyun holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from Rice University, a Master of Science (M.S.) degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China.
